Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State has been close down following vehicle movement restriction imposed within the city by military authorities.
NewsGenesis reports that both Christians and Muslims were forced to attend Churches and Sallah prayer ground on foot.
Speaking on the vehicle movement restriction, residents of Maiduguri, told NewsGenesis that the movement of military personnel around the city suggested that there may be plan by the Boko Haram insurgents to attack worshipers.
“We heard over the media that the restriction of movement of vehicles is from Monday to Wednesday but we are surprised that all roads were closed today, Sunday.
“The movement of soldiers heading towards Molai road gives the impression that there is problem. May be the insurgents are planning attacks. You know they have been planning to attack Maiduguri for long but Allah will not allow them. They are not Muslims, they are evil people”, Usman Alkali said.
He said most residents of Maiduguri are not worried by the restriction, as it is for the common good.
“If they had allowed movement today, those who went to Sallah ground to pray today, Sunday, could have been attacked, so, I think this is good and people should see it and take it in good faith”, he added.
Giving reasons for the restriction of vehicle movement in Maiduguri, the spokesman of the 7 Division Nigerian Army, Col. Muhammadu Dole told newsmen in Maiduguri that the Army did not plan to inflict suffering on the people but that it was a move to prevent any unfortunate incident during the Ed-El Fitri Sallah celebration.
