Police in Kano today averted a massive attack as its Explosive Ordinance Disposal unit de-activated a powerful bomb targeting Muslim faithful observing the Sallah break.
Speaking to newsmen, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adenrele Shinaba said the causality figure would have been high had the bomb exploded at a time when tens of thousands of Muslims were observing their Eld-El-Fitr prayer at the Mosque.
He described the explosive as a high-calibre car bomb kept in a Peugeot 406 car and packed at the gate of Isiayaku Rabiu Mosque in Goro Dutche quarters in the city.
The car had been timed to explode during Eid Fitr’s prayers on Sunday.
The Commissioner added that the police EOD unit successfully defused the car bomb.
