Information
reaching NewsGenesis says that the Nelson Mandela Freedom Park, Osogbo
has been locked up by both military and police officers, apparently to
stop a rally organised by Labour movement in the state to endorse Gov.
Aregbesola, the APC candidate for the Saturday guber election.
We
gathered that the organised Labour in Osun State had officially applied
for and got approval for the use of the park for its rally prior to the
closure.
The story however changed on the morning of Wednesday,
6th August, 2014, when a troop of soldiers and police officers stormed
the park, informing its management that they were acting on “orders from
above” to stop all activities from taking place there “for now”.
Barrister
Kunle Oyatomi, the Osun All Progressives Congress (APC’s) Director of
Publicity, Strategy and Research, while reacting to the development said
thus; “we understand that the Federal Government was frightened by the
magnitude of the mega rally of the APC which is the biggest scene so far
in the history of campaign in the state. Citizens are therefore advised
not to put themselves in harm’s way by confronting the soldiers. They
should move on and reassemble somewhere else. The people of the State of
Osun will not submit to oppression and intimidation,”
