Drogba-MikelJohn Mikel Obi has expressed his delight at Didier Drogba’s return to Chelsea.
The Ivorian striker left after helping the Blues win the 2012 Champions League and played in China and Turkey, before choosing to reunite with Jose Mourinho again.
“I heard the rumours [that Drogba would come back] but I thought there was no way it was going to happen,” Mikel told the club’s website.
“I thought when he’s gone, he’s gone, but then I thought about it a bit more and realized it could happen because of the connection that the gaffer and Didier have always had.
“I’m glad to have him back. It’s like his home. He’s fitting in perfectly well again. It’s like he never went away. It’s good for the team because he’s a big player and a big personality.”
The Super Eagles midfielder made his return to the Chelsea team in their 3-0 loss to Werder Bremen in a pre-season friendly and spoke about the new additions to the squad.
“The character and the belief that we have in this team, from the players that have been here a long time, I’m sure that will transform into the new players.
“It’s always a big pressure playing for this club. You always expect to win trophies every year so I’m sure the new players that have come in will help us win more trophies.
