Hundreds of residents of Garkida town in Gombi local government area
of Adamawa state, northeast, Nigeria are reportedly moving out of their
homes following a threat letter written to the community by the
notorious Islamic sect, Boko Haram.
The purported threat letter was said to have been delivered three days after the insurgents attacked the village, killing four soldiers and several other civilians and other who were swept by river Hawul while trying to escape.
Some locals told NewsGenesis that, the sect members have cleared Biji-Biji, a village in Garkida and have also settled in another village called Mbewa, where they promising the people that they won’t harm them as their mission was totally different.
Locals said the presence of the sect members around Garkida does not mean that the days ahead were promising, and as such, there is an ongoing mass exodus of the people who are now trooping into Adamawa, Gombe, Maiduguri and as far as Abuja to stay with relatives.
NewsGenesis gathered that due to the attacks in Southern Borno area of Hawul, particularly the recent attacks at Tashan Alede where churches were burnt, locals are now taking refuge in nearby forests as they fear further attacks.
