pdp-logo3The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun state, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has promised to revert to the 6-3-3-4 national policy on education if elected governor of the state.
Addressing a rally at Okinni in Egbedore local government area of Osun State, Omisore condemned the Governor Rauf Aregbesola’s new policy which has relegated the one introduced by the federal government for all schools in Nigeria.
He also promised to ensure that no student is made to trek long distance before getting to school, adding that he would examine other issues introduced into the state’s education policy by Aregbesola’s administration.
Condemning the alleged withdrawal of the learning tablets (Opon Imo), distributed to some students in public high schools, Omisore said the uploading of subjects into the gadgets was responsible for poor performance of Osun students in the last WASCE.
According to him, “There are myriads of errors in the learning tablets, most especially in Mathematics, which does not have graphs and log tables, while Chemistry, Biology, Physics and other key subjects lacked necessary inputs.
“This was the genesis of academic failures and foundation of dismal performances of our children in WASCE, such that our rating in Osun dropped drastically to 24th position from 13th”.
The former Osun Deputy governor called on parents, teachers and other stakeholders to save the education sector by voting en masse for the PDP come August 9
