Former Super Eagles coach Adegboye Onigbinde, has called on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), to seek independence from the federal government, to avoid future FIFA suspensions.
The world governing body last week lifted the ban on all Nigerian national teams, after a court case that saw the Alhaji Aminu Maigari-led board sacked, was withdrawn.
Onigbinde expressed his relief that the country was spared heavier sanctions, but he has advised the NFF to proffer solutions to its financial demands from the government, so they will not cry out to FIFA when there is supposed interference.
“You are happy that the same judge that has declared that somebody is corrupt went back to withdraw the case and immediately the accused goes out of the law court, he begins stealing again,” Onigbinde told Goal.
“Something must be done to ensure that the NFF stays independent of the government because there can never be interference if the government still funds the activities of the NFF. The government has the rights to ask questions on how the money it released is spent. It is no interference at all,” he said.
