Nigerian incumbent President Jonathan arrives to vote in Otuoke, NigeriaA member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Board of Trustee, Chief Romeo Ezeonwuka has advised the Federal Government to avoid the western countries in the event of an approval of the $1 billion loan request for the purchase of military equipment.
President Goodluck Jonathan is seeking approval from the Senate for a loan to purchase sophisticated weapons to fight Boko Haram insurgency in Nigeria.
But the President has come under heavy criticism from some Nigerians who demanding that the Defense Ministry should account for funds earlier allocated to the military to fight Boko Haram insurgency which has taken control of some parts of the North-East, especially Borno State.
The critics of government fear that the $1billion loan if eventually approved by the National Assembly might end up in private pockets thereby defeating the original purpose.
But in a clear demonstration of support for the loan, Proprietor, Rojenny Tourist village, Oba, Anambra State, Chief Romeo Ezeonwuka was, rather concerned with a resounding victory over Boko-Haram insurgency in the country which he said needed to be fought with all necessary vigour at the government disposal.
Chief Ezeonwuka, however, warned the Federal Government to look in the direction of China and avoid the West which is noted for supplying developing Countries with obsolete military equipment.
He opined that China would make a better option than the West in the supply of such sophisticated equipment and charged Federal Government to concentrate more on military satellite surveillance and tanks as that would represent the new vision of Nigeria’s armament.
The APGA Chieftain warned that the loan if eventually approved should be channeled into the venture it was originally meant to serve and not an opportunity for economic and political jamboree.
